Mysuru Sand Sculpture Museum: An Overview

Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum, the first sand museum in the country, is the brainchild of the Mysore-based sand artist, Gowri MN.

The museum, inaugurated in 2014, is located at the base of the Chamundi Hills. The museum spreads over 13,000 sq. ft. with around 150 sculptures carved out of sand.

Around 115 truckloads of natural river sand have been used to create the exhibits at the Sand Museum, Mysore.

The artist took around five months to complete the work. Each sculpture is created solely using sand and water; a small quantity of glue is used for vertical compositions.

The exhibits at the sand museum in Mysore are placed in an open space with ample natural air and light. Light roofing is used to protect them from rain and sun.

In addition to the intricately and delicately carved sand sculptures, the museum has a 3D selfie gallery and a few other attractions on its premises.
