Sarathi Parivahan Online Services – A Step-By-Step Guide

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has released 2 apps to computerize RTO services – VAHAN for Vehicle Registration and SARATHI for Driving Licenses.

Sarathi Parivahan.gov.in was developed to standardize procedures for acquiring and maintaining a driving license. The apps and websites takes into account the difference in licensing procedures followed by different states and streamlines the process for the issuer and the license holder.

If you already have a driving license, you can check the details and validity online on the Sarathi Parivahan site using the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu

Step 2: Click on the DL extract icon

Step 3: A new page will be displayed. Scroll down and click on continue.

Step 4: Enter your driving license number and date of birth. Click on the Continue button

The page will be refreshed and you can view all your details.

A learner’s license is a provisional license for people still learning how to drive. Learner’s license holders should ideally have someone else in the car who holds a valid driving license.

You will not need to clear a practical driving test but you will need to pass a written exam and be aware of all traffic rules. The steps to getting a Sarathi Parivahan learner’s license are:

Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu

Step 2: Click on the Apply for Learner’s License icon

Step 3: Read the instructions and click on Continue

Step 4: Select the appropriate category and existing license details if any.

Step 5: Enter your mobile number, generate OTP and submit the same. Click on Authenticate with Sarathi

Step 6: Fill in all 3 sections of the application and submit

Step 7: A new screen will show the submitted application button. You can print this if required or click on Next
Step 8: The next screen will show the status of your application. Click on Upload Documents and Proceed.

Step 9: Click on the OK tab

Step 10: Upload all supporting documents:
1.  Age Proof: PAN Card/ Passport/ Birth Certificate /10^th class mark sheet
2.  Address Proof: Aadhar Card/ Passport/ Ration Card/electricity or telephone bill/ registered house rent agreement and recent utility bills.
3.  Form 1. This form can be downloaded, filled and then uploaded.
4.  Some states may require a scanned photograph and signature to be uploaded.

Step 11: The screen will refresh to the application status page. Click on Book LL slot and Proceed.

Step 12: Select any date from the calendar that is typed in Green. The page will refresh to show available time slots. Click on the slot you want. Click on the Bookslot tab. You will receive a confirmation SMS with booking details.

Step 13: The screen will refresh to the application status page. Click on Fee Payment and Proceed.

Step 14: Read the instructions and click on Continue to ePayment

Step 15: See the fee payable. Select the appropriate payment option, enter the Captcha code and click on Pay Now.

Step 16: Note the Token ID and proceed to make payment

Sarathi Parivahan mock test online – method 1

To take Sarathi Parivahan mock test online, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu

Step 2: Click on the ‘Sample Question for LL Test’ tab from the dropdown menu under Learner License

Step 3: Select your state and language and submit

You will see a fresh page with the question bank

Sarathi Parivahan mock test online – method 2

You can also take Sarathi Parivahan mock test online by following the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu
Step 2: Click on the ‘Mock Test for LL’ tab from the dropdown menu under Learner License
Step 3: Enter your particulars and sign in

A fresh page will open with a timed mock test. Click on the answer you think correct and submit. If the answer is correct, the option you chose will be highlighted in green

If the answer is incorrect, the option you chose will be highlighted in red and the correct answer will be shown in green.

A learner’s license is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. You can apply for a Sarathi Parivahan driving license between 30 and 180 days of being issued the learner’s license. The steps to follow to get a Sarathi Parivahan driving license are:

Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu
Step 2: Click on the ‘Apply for Driving License’ icon.

Step 3: Read the instructions and click on ‘Continue’

Step 4: Enter your learner’s License details and click on OK

Step 5: You will see a page with all your learner’s license details. Scroll to the bottom. Click on the select all tab and then the right arrow to shift the vehicle categories for your DL. Submit.

Step 6: A new page with your application details will be shown. You can print this page for future reference. Click next.

Step 7: You will see a new screen with your details and application status. Click on Upload documents and Proceed.

Step 8: Confirm your application number and Date of Birth and Submit

Step 9: Click on the OK tab

Step 10: Upload address proof and learner’s license. When both are uploaded, click on the Next button.

Step 11: The screen will refresh to the application status page. Click on Fee Payment and Proceed.

Step 12: See the fee payable. Select the appropriate payment option, enter the Captcha code and click on Pay Now.

Step 13: Note the Token ID and proceed to pay the Parivahan DL fees

Step 14: The screen will refresh to the application status page. Click on Book DL slot and Proceed.

Step 15: Select the vehicle categories and proceed to book
Step 16: Select any date from the calendar that is typed in Green. The page will refresh to show available time slots. Click on the slot you want. Click on the Bookslot tab. You will receive a confirmation SMS with booking details.

Step 17: Save and print the provisional booking slip

On the scheduled date, you need to attend an exam and pass a multiple-choice test and a practical driving test.

You will need to prove your identity and address in order to apply for a driving license. The documents required are:
·  Passport-sized photograph
·  Proof of your age: Birth certificate, voter ID card or 10^th class mark sheet
·  Proof of address: Voter ID card, ration card, Aadhar card, electricity bill or PAN card

If you clear the written test and can prove that you can drive safely, you should get a permanent driving license within a month. In the interim, you can check the Sarathi Parivahan application status online.
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu
Step 2: Click on the application status link on the website

Step 3: Enter your application number, date of birth and Captcha image details and submit

You will then be able to view all your application details. The website will then open a new screen with your application status details.

To do Sarathi Parivahan slot booking and reschedule appointment, you need to follow the below steps:
Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu
Step 2: Click on the tab for Appointments

Step 3: Select the LL Slot Booking or DL slot booking option from the drop down menu

Step 4: Enter your application details and click on Submit

In the case of a DL lot, you can enter the learner license number or application number

Step 5: Select the COVs for your test and click on Proceed to Book

Step 6: Select any date from the calendar that is typed in Green. The page will refresh to show available time slots. Click on the slot you want. Click on the Bookslot tab.

Step 7: You will receive an OTP on your mobile number. Enter it as the security code and Submit

Step 8: Confirm your slot

Typically a driving license is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until the license-holder becomes 50-years old. Here are the steps to renew your driving license:

Step 1: Visit the Sarathi Parivahan website and select your state from the drop down menu
Step 2: Click on the tab to Apply for DL Renewal

Step 3: Scroll down to read the instructions and click on the Continue button

Step 4: Enter your current license number and your date of birth to see the details

Step 5: Confirm your details, enter the RTO details and click on the Proceed button

Step 6: Make any changes in personal information if required and Confirm



Step 7: Click on Renewal of DL

Step 8: Confirm your particulars are correct and enter the Captcha code

Step 9: A fresh page will show you the submitted application. You can print a copy. Click Next.
Step 10: You will see a fresh page with the status of your application and links for 2 forms – Form 1 and form 1A. Download both and fill.


Step 11: Click on Upload Documents and then proceed to upload these forms
Step 12: Complete the fee payment
