The PM Yashasvi Yojana is a Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment initiative for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified Nomadic Tribes (DNT) students. There are 4 components of this scheme relevant to financial aid for students.
Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT Students

PM Yashasvi Yojana Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT Students
The PM Yasasvi Yojana scholarship is aimed at full-time students enrolled in classes IX and X in a government school. The PM Yashasvi scholarship scheme offers a Rs 4000 annual scholarship to these students paid directly to their accounts or their parent’s accounts through an Aadhaar-based Based Payment System.

PM Yashasvi Yojana Top Class College Education for OBC, EBC and DNT Students
The PM Yashasvi Yojana Top Class College Education component is designed to encourage students to pursue education beyond class XII. To be eligible, students must attend a full-time prescribed course in any of the notified institutions.
The PM Yasasvi Yojana scheme cannot be used to fund education for more than 2 siblings in a family. The tuition fee support will be paid directly to the educational institution through DBT mode. Other funds awarded will be transferred directly to the student’s account.
The scholarships provided by this component of the PM Yasasvi Yojana are:
- Tuition fee support for up to Rs 2 lakhs for students enrolled in private sector institutions and Rs 3.72 lakhs for students enrolled in Commercial Pilot Training and Type Rating Courses
- Living expenses of up to Rs 3000 per month
- Financial support for books and stationery of up to Rs 5000 per annum
- One-time assistance of up to Rs 45,000 for the purchase of a computer/ laptop and accessories
PM Yashasvi Yojana Eligibility
The PM Yashasvi Yojana aims at helping students from economically backward families pursue higher education. Common eligibility criteria for all components of the PM Yasasvi Yojana are:
- The student must be an Indian citizen
- Students must belong to OBC, EBC, or DNT families
- The family’s annual income must not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- per annum
- The student must not benefit from any other central government educational scholarship
- In the case of boys, only 2 sons of a family are eligible for this scholarship. There is no such restriction for girls
- Students must have scored at least 60% in the previous year’s exams
- 30% of these PM Yashasvi scholarships are reserved for girls.
In addition to the above, each component of the scheme may have additional eligibility criteria.

Step 5: Enter your mobile number and click on the Get OTP button. Enter the OTP as received via SMS and the captcha code. Click on the verify button.
An OTR ID will be issued on completing these steps. You can then complete the eKYC part of the Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Yojana online registration process. You may need to download the NSP OTR app on your android device.
PM Yashasvi Scheme Apply Online

PM Yashasvi Yojana Exam Date and Syllabus
When the PM Yashasvi Scholarship was announced, eligible students were initially required to take a test. Students were issued a Yashasvi Yojana admit card and needed to take a multiple-choice online test. However, closer to the PM Yashasvi Yojana exam date 2023, this test was cancelled. Instead, PM Yasasvi Yojana applicants were evaluated based on marks obtained in the previous class.
Yashasvi Yojana Scholarship Selection
Each state is allotted scholarship slots based on its OBC population.
After the PM scholarship last date, all applications are sent for verification to the school Nodal officers. A merit list for boys and girls in each class is then created for every state. This list is based on the marks secured in the previous academic year. The state government then awards scholarships to the most meritorious students.
